Weekend reading roundup (13 March 2017)

How did your weekend reading go? If you planned on anything specifically, did you read it?

My plan was to finish something, and to read something cheerful. I achieved both of these!

Cheerful: I read books one and two of the Harriet Hamster series - absolutely recommend, for anyone who likes a bit of thinking and leftist politics in their fairy tale rewrites. Suitable for any age that will sit and read a chapter book, or sit still to have it read to them.

Finish something: I had started 'the Wizardry of Jewish Women' by Gillian Polack early in the week. I had a lot of difficulties getting in to it (personal issues with some of the content - mentioned in all the summaries I've seen, for people who need content warnings going in), but persevered over the weekend, and finished it up. Mostly recommended, but getting hold of a copy will be difficult because the publisher closed up.

Harriet Hamster is just fabulous. So very glad that I took a gamble and just ordered them all (I like them much better than Vernon's Dragonbreath series, which is also for children)
