Daily Reading (07 August 2015) and Weekend Reading

Today's post is a twofer! This is entirely self-interested because I FINISHED A BOOK yesterday which is a thing I have not managed for, er, some time now. Soooo...

What have you been reading today? Everything counts, from a novel-length fic to the labels on your washing!

AND/OR

What are you planning to read this weekend? Everything counts! Menus, maps and mysteries included.

Yay for finishing!

I was at work when Challenger blew - in a nursing home, where there were a hundred TVs, all watching it live. :(

Congratulations on finishing something! :D

I've been slowly working my way through The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman. It's about everything leading up to the first month of WWI, and so far I'm finding it fascinating.

Planned reading for the weekend is the webcomic Stand Still, Stay Silent, which I'm already partway through and absolutely loving so far. Post-apocalyptic northern Europe is totally my jam.

Just arrived in the mail: the four City of Astreiant novels by Melissa Scott and Lisa A. Barnett. OMG so excite! Three guesses what I shall be reading today and over the weekend. *g*

*dolphin noises of squee*

It really is - the stories are absorbing, the characters are memorable (the two leads are so likeable I can't even tell you), and the world-building just blows me away. I had read the last two but didn't own them, so when the whole lot were offered together I pounced on it. I've read other of Scott's work and never been disappointed - she's amazing.

Woot book yay!

I skimmed a lot of The Handy Nutrition Answer Book yesterday. It didn't tell me much useful that I didn't already know, but it did (earlier in the week, when I was first reading through it) give me the push to get whole grains back in my diet. Which is making me feel better and more capable of doing things, so, win all around.

I plan to read my draft of a story I thought I'd finished writing months ago and then work on writing the new draft that expands on the backstory explicit and implicit in the old draft.

Twitter and Dreamwidth; some nice long fanfic and I've started on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dairy_products but got held up at http://www.ganoksin.com/borisat/nenam/milk-stone.htm and now have a hankering for very good costume jewelry that I'm not allergic to.
