Today's post is a twofer! This is entirely self-interested because I FINISHED A BOOK yesterday which is a thing I have not managed for, er, some time now. Soooo...

I finished the ARC of the Sally Ride biography that emelbe left for me. \o/ It was pitched at a YA audience and I think it did pretty well, although I kind of yearned for more technical detail about her work with the shuttle's manipulator arm and on the accident investigation boards for Challenger and Columbia. I hadn't realised that she flew both her missions on Challenger. I have a vivid memory of the Challenger disaster - I was one of the many primary school children who watched it disintegrate on live television in my classroom. :/

It also made me want to pick up some of the science education books she wrote with her partner to keep in reserve for the children when they're a bit older.

Yay for finishing!

I was at work when Challenger blew - in a nursing home, where there were a hundred TVs, all watching it live. :(

It's funny how finishing one thing has made me feel so much better about my reading capacity.

That (nursing home TVs) sounds appalling. :( It was bad enough with one TV in a classroom, and a stunned teacher with no idea how to explain what had just happened to us.
