The prompt for our introductions to our classmates for my Systems of Oppression in Women's Lives class. Again. (Class starts in one week, intros are due two weeks yesterday, and the course has been open in Canvas for three weeks at least. So I have time but I want to do this post really soon now and argh.)

How major is major? I knew there was an earthquake, my Facebook notifications this morning included "[friend in Chile] has been marked safe in the Chile Earthquake", but—I should go an actual news site, shouldn't I.

Maybe following the news would be a good idea ;) I found that it can literally open a whole new world :)

A major earthquake as in: 8.3 Mw (which is quite big, although not yet classified as a great earthquake (threshold=8.5Mw) and a tsunami.

Yeah, I went to theguardian.com. I deliberately don't usually read news sites, it's generally sad-making, but some things I shouldn't be learning about from happening to read a comment on Dreamwidth.

I just started Sir Stanley Hooker's Not Much of an Engineer. I do love how the attitude at Rolls Royce seems to have been, "Oh look, we hired a mathematician!...So, um, what do we do with him?"
