We all have things we mean to read, but never quite find the time, whether it's a bunch of unopened tabs, or an ever growing pile of books by the bed.

I decided to read Ian McEwan's Enduring Love before Ancillary Mercy due to the movie stream ending on Dec 14. Unfortunately, I'm not yet making much headway with it...

I remember quite liking that one, although I've been off him since Amsterdam.

I loved Atonement, didn't much care for First Love, Last Rites or In Between The Sheets though one of those stories still haunts me (about the guy who folded his girlfriend from existence or something WTF that stuck with me). As I said, so far the book isn't grabbing me but I'm only 50 pages in.

Of his early stuff, I loved Black Dogs and The Child in Time , which both deal with loss and abuse in a serious, compassionate way. Unlike some of his very early stuff that seems design to shock and appall. I enjoyed Enduring Love, adored Atonement, and gave up reading his new stuff after Saturday. I also stopped reading interviews with him around then.

I would very much like to read this week's Economist as it has a number of articles on Syria. I shall try and read it in the bath this evening.

I have not even started the research and (re)reading I need to do to write my Yultide assignment. I'm excited about the prompt, and I have ideas about how to structure the writing, but I really need to do some reading before I can start.
