A few more pages of 'The Brain that changes itself', and a sneaky-I-should-be-out-the-door few pages of volume 3 of The Wicked + The Divine (graphic novel0. The first is interesting, the second lush and subtly plotted.

Since last report, I have read:

  • The Vegetarian by Han Kang. This won the Man Booker prize, so I suppose it must be a good book, but all I really got out of it was a reminder that namul are delicious.
  • Everfair by Nisi Shawl. Didn’t finish this — I got about a third of the way through but it all felt far too rushed for me.

Almost through with Rich Bitch: a 12 step plan to getting your financial plan together...finally by Nicole Lapin.

still slogging away with The Kiss That Counted. I hope to finish it today, just so I can get rid of it and never have to look at it again.

I managed to read some bits of my birthday books: Nadiya's Kitchen (the Bake Off winner's first cookbook!) and C. Stross' The Nightmare Stacks, which looks like it's going to be fun.

You might like it! Reading online reviews, people seem split over whether they like the pacing or not. I'm not very familiar with the steampunk genre, so this might be normal, but it felt like I wasn't given enough time to get to know the characters.

Sadly, in 'The Brain that Changes Itself' I have reached the chapter on sexuality, and the author is Wrong on top of Wrong with a side order of Wrong. And appears to have done a back flip re: neuroplasticity with statements about 'bad' sexual preferences being 'accidentally' hardwired and 'unfixable'. I noped out due to cranky, although I will go back and read more. Just *aaarrrgggh*.
