Weekend Reading Roundup (18 September 2017)

How did your weekend reading go? If you planned on anything specifically, did you read it?

Since I last checked in, I have finished:

What We Talk About When We Talk About God
by Rob Bell (audiobook)
Mindset: A New Psychology for Success by Caroline Dweck
Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes
The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking
The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard.

Ooh, gosh, I think I might like that, but I’m a bit concerned since The Guardian quoted the chair of the Costa judges as saying it’s “part horror story”. I have a very low threshold for “too much horror”. How would you say it compares to, say, our recently-discussed Coraline in terms of horror?

Thanks — I’ll give it a miss. Info much appreciated.

Yeah, I'm the worst for getting drawn into a good story, book, film, video game, anything and I will get weepy. These two books in particular caught me off guard, but I don't regret reading them.

I actually managed to read what I was supposed to read. Unfortunately, that meant I didn't read the stuff I wanted to read. That either means I have too little time, or that I have too many obligations.

ETA: Martin Buber on Israel/Palestine, a few chapters in Barbara Tuchman's A Distant Mirror, and a chunk of a novel about the Ba'al Shem Tov.

I'm in the middle of Middlemarch - it's going to take me a while to finish it as it's so massive.

I recently read Middlemarch for the first time and am looking forward to having left it long enough that I can go for a re-read!
