I plan to finish the second book in the Riddle-Master (I keep thinking Quartermaster) trilogy by the end of the week. It's going a bit slowly since fantasy is not really my genre but I'll be all right if I can finish the trilogy by the end of next week which still leaves me a few days before I need to return the book to the library.
I mostly read fantasy and science fiction and I still found the Riddle-Master Trilogy to be a slow, dense read. I love McKillip's books, but I find her newer ones to be easier reads.
Her writing is at times swift but it is very dense, yes. I probably should have started with something easier. I am reading the last book of the trilogy now and while it is interesting, it is slow.
I'm starting This Gulf of Time and Stars by Julie E. Czerneda tonight. I had wanted to read her fantasy series before starting this but didn't get to read them before my baby was born and they are extremely long books, so I'll read them sometime next year. I'm so glad that a) the books I picked up today at the library aren't due the same day b) that the other book I had on request through inter-library loan did not come in yet, so I can pick it up next week or the week after and have time to read all three books (since they are new, there's no guarantee that I can renew them- if someone else reserves them, I won't be able to renew).
