I did some science-related reading (but fun stuff about statistics, not for work) and some pleasure-reading: The Lady of the Shroud by Bram Stoker which happens to be on my bedside table. It always makes me laugh (I do not believe this was the author's intention).
Got started on Superhighway: Maritime Strategy in the 21st Century by (Rear Admiral) Chris Parry. it's drawing an interesting parallel between the oceans and the internet.
Finished off David Gilmour's "The Ruling Caste", a social history of the ICS under the Raj, and started Filipe Fernandez-Armesto's "A Foot in the River", a rather caustic look at biologically determinist views of cultural change.
Got the required reading done, and all the emails about the required reading. There is one new email today, but I'm pretending I'll deal with it tomorrow.
Have started a new book (of the new 'pile in the doorway' - the aim is to not have a pile at the end of the year). It is "The Dressmaker", and is set in 1950s rural Australia, with (so far) no sympathetic characters, and lots of shitty stuff happening. I'm aiming to read a couple of pages each time I pick it up, because I would like to be able to tell the person who gave it to me that I have read it, and make some kind of useful comment about it.
*and* I read some fan fic. Mostly by looking back through things I've already read for something I was trying to point someone to, but I'm absolutely counting it.
Which makes me 4 from the planned 4! Best weekend yet! (sadly, there will be one more good reading weekend before uni goes back. Then all reading will be uni work, unless I meet my performance targets, which will have to be set up as soon as I have the relevant information).
