I seem to have fallen into Memory by Lois McMaster Bujold, which was not really how I planned to spend my evening, but you see, Lois had just happened upon a website listing all of her awards, and she hadn't quite realized how many she had until they were all laid out together...
Many many articles about how to appropriately calculate reference ranges/intervals in the presence of data that may or may not be normally distributed. With a pile to come about how one determines appropriate sample size, with or without subgroups and/or covariates.
I ... might almost be able to justify the sample size for the application that has passed ethics already.
