How did your (last couple of) weekend(s) reading go? If you planned on anything specifically, did you read it?

Apologies for lateness of this and lack of previous week's postings. It was a bank holiday weekend in the UK & also I've been overwhelmed with work.

Quick reread of the first three volumes of Dance. Now working through a history of Hong Kong and the Hutcheons' book on Disease, Death and Dying in opera.

Sounds good! Especially that last one. It reminds me of my recent perusals of The Encyclopedia of Pestilence, Pandemics, and Plague. For instance, before I owned the book I was vaguely aware that typhoid and typhus were different diseases, but not the specifics.

Just finished reading Follow You Home by Mark Edwards, and I reread Tattoo by Paul Cooley. Not sure what I'm going to read next.

Well, I have a ton of books on my to read list that I need to finish. Unfortunately, I keep adding to it. :) So I think I’m gonna focus on those for a while. I have a few series that I want to finish. Now let’s see if I can actually do it. :D

This weekend I finished Raising Steam by Terry Pratchett.

The weekend before that I was too ill to read for more than 30 minutes :-(

I am much better. This winter really kicked my arse in the cold and flu department.

I still haven't read The Sheppard's Crown, but I have acquired a copy, so it is only a matter of time. I liked the idea of there being some Discworld books I still hadn't read.

The weekend before this, I finished Blitzed, the account of drug use in Nazi Germany. Despite the exhaustive bibliography, it was not always clear what was fact and what was conjecture on the part of the author. A little frustrating.

I then read Andy Hamiton's The Star Witness, which I'd bought for my partner. He recommended it as funny but not in the usual rollicking-laugh style of his radio comedy. Unfortunately he forgot to mention that part of the plot is predicated around someone causing deliberate harm to a child, which is a very sensitive point with me these days. This spoiled my enjoyment of it, and I would not recommend it to anyone for whom this is no-go content.
